How Can an Online Math Course Help Your Student?

fractions math success Feb 09, 2023

We know when it comes to finding help for your student in math there are a lot of different options, and it can be a challenge to know which one will work best! At Ignite Learning Company, we believe that there are many advantages to an online digital course for students and families and are excited to launch our latest course Fractions Unlocked: Introduction to Fractions for 3rd & 4th grade students. If you've been wondering "How can an online course help my child?" "What are the advantages?" we've got answers for you!

#1: Quality Instruction

Finding a math tutor can be hard enough, and many times when parents do find one that is affordable and can work with their schedule, asking the question of “is this the right tutor?” is just not even considered. We are not saying that older students or teachers of other grades and subjects aren’t amazing. We also are not implying that to be a good tutor someone has to have a degree in education and be actively teaching or have experience teaching the same grade level math your student needs help in…..BUT WOULDN'T THAT BE AWESOME?!

Well, as a matter of fact, our course teacher not only has experience planning and teaching math lessons for 3rd-6th grade, but she is also an active teacher who works with students daily inside real classrooms.  She knows how math concepts are commonly being taught in classrooms as well as other strategies that help students gain a better understanding of difficult skills.

#2: Cost

It is no secret that the average American family’s income is stretched thin. The rising costs of everything from gas and groceries to “value” meals have most of us sounding old beyond our years, frequently saying sentences sounding something like, “I remember when <insert just about anything> only cost <insert a ridiculously lower price>.” Just go ahead and put us on one of those Progressive Insurance commercials on how not to become your parents.

Hiring a personal math tutor either online or in person is going to cost you anywhere from $40 - $60 per hour. Even if you opt for group classes, you can still easily end up paying $250 - $300 a month. Our digital courses are competitively priced starting at $49.95 for a whole course which contains an average of 10-15 lessons!

#3 Convenience

One thing there does NOT seem to be a lack of for kids these days is extra-curricular activities. Whether they are athletic, artistic, intellectual or all of the above, kids have endless opportunities to participate in school and privately based teams, lessons and clubs allowing them to explore and express their individuality! However, this can quickly become a scheduling nightmare, especially if you have multiple children. Anyone ever had to pay for an appointment or lesson that your child didn't even attend because you had a scheduling conflict (or just forgot about it?)?

With a digital course you don't have to worry about paying for something you didn't get or trying to fit it into a busy schedule! Once you purchase the course it's yours forever to access whenever it is convenient for your student. While we do not recommend taking extended breaks once starting a course, you are able to take and retake the course if needed at your own pace.

#4 Real teacher- No voice-overs or cartoons

Recently, a parent was telling us a story about searching the internet trying to find a video that matched the exact math skill their student was working on. They were so proud of themselves when they found it only to have their student roll their eyes and let out that "ughhhhhh" sound when the video began playing and it was a little cartoon animal teaching. Students in grades 3rd-6th aren't quite teenagers yet, but we all know they think they are and they certainly do not want to do, or be seen doing anything that a "little kid" would do like learn from a cartoon squirrel.

Our digital courses are taught by a real teacher whose face you can see during the lessons. She can even be a little corny and long winded sometimes just like teachers are in the classroom but we try to edit most of that out! Our point is, we try to make our courses as real as possible, giving your student the opportunity to learn a skill from a math teacher just like they would if they were sitting in a classroom.

#5 Material for Extra Practice

If a student needs extra help to master a math skill, then they also are going to need extra practice problems to work out!  Think about it.  Just because you may watch a video that teaches you, “how to tie a tie,” in order for you to be successful in doing it you need to practice tying a real tie (probably many times).

All of our courses come with printable worksheets for each lesson and a video for students to watch after independently completing the worksheet. In this video the teacher works out all of the problems so that students can see if they got them right, or if not, where they went wrong.

There you have it! So now the question is, Why wouldn't you want to buy one of our digital courses in math for your student? The only logical answer is because we may currently not offer a course on a specific skill that your student needs help with. We're hard at work developing new courses and resources on skills students struggle with the most. Next up in our digital course library will be Fractions Unlocked: Expanding Fraction Skills for 4th & 5th grade students coming soon in April 2023.

In the meantime, check out our current lineup here:

All of our courses not only provide help in math on skills that students tend to struggle with the most, but also can be used as an amazing resource for students looking to get ahead. Is there a math skill you would like to see covered in an online course? We'd love to hear from you! Send us an email at [email protected] and tell us more about you and what your students need.
